antebellum prompt three. baelor “the peacemaker” targaryen ii, king in the south 415-434 AL.

war. that was what made legacies. that was what people remembered. and his father, viserys “the wise”, was consumed with the idea of his legacy. he was at the end of his days. viserys knew it, baelor knew it, the entire kingdom knew it. his son had always wondered whether it was his carrying of that weight that led his father to support the war. he wondered if that was the reason why he sent so many men to die for a reason that baelor could never seem to find - legacy. it was never something the young targaryen had considered or bothered to give high regard to. he lacked the fierceness and ferocity of his father, and he did not go far to hide his disagreement with the war in his father’s company. it was rumored far and wide that on his death bed, viserys attempted to plead with his son to keep the war going. it was, however, baelor’s decision that went down in the history books. he pulled his men from the east, leaving domeric almost no choice but to end the war without targaryen support.

despite caring so little about his own legacy, it was his that started that day. the peacemaker.

it was that alias that followed him throughout the rest of his quiet life, a life full of peace and separation for the trivialities of war. he lacked the targaryen fire, a fact that left him different from both his predecessors and his successors. he lacked the need for war and action, contenting himself with a quiet reign unlike the kind the south had become well-acquainted with. having been saved from pushing more of their children and brothers into battle, the people looked to him fondly, enjoying the time of peace that flourished throughout the kingdom for nearly twenty years. it was an illness that took him over, leaving the strong, young man struggling for breath at the end of his time. the people lamented, for the long time of peace had come to an end and their beloved king was gone so quick.
